Dean was such a good soul and wonderful teacher. La Cumbre and all who knew him will miss him. They will, however, smile every time they think about him.

Aloha nui loa, my friend...

Dean was the impossible - a junior high school teacher who was strict and funny, always with a suggestion of a wry smile, who truly enjoyed the students and knew all their names, and was adored by his students. He was the complete man - a unique man, beloved by all. A Science and Health teacher par excellence, he raised and adored his own kids, he grew his own food, he sewed Hawaiian shirts and totebags for himself and friends, he invested his life recently in the students and staff at La Cumbre JHS and in the past in people in Costa Rica, he spoke fluent Spanish. He lived with zest and with grace. He leaves a hole that no one can fill - truly irreplaceable. What a man!

Dean will be dearly missed. I'm twelve years old, and even though I never knew him, I know that he was a great man. He was very kind, giving and the best friend any person could ask for. I learned about him through my mother. Dean threw my mother's baby shower whe she was pregnant with me. Even though I don't remember, he visted me in the hospital the day I was born. He brought me a book of fairytales that I still have and that I will treasure forever. Thank you Mr. Jensen for the way you were and thank God for men like you!
