Robert A. MacLean
Robert A. MacLean passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Cottage Hospital, Santa Barbara.
Known as “Sandy” to his family and “Bob” to his friends, he was born to Avis and Robert MacLean in Pontiac, Michigan.
He spent a wonderful childhood on the lakes of Michigan and later on the Niagara River while living on Grand Island, NY. He played football and swam competitively in high school there. Being so close to the water at such a young age led to a life-long love of boats, the shore, fishing and all things nautical.
His family moved to Los Angeles in 1960. He attended Cal State Northridge, where he met his future wife (married 1964). They moved to Goleta in 1971 to raise their three children.
Bob worked as a computer systems manager for many years in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. He was an active member of the Porsche Club of America and very much enjoyed and took pride in rally driving. He loved to cook and to read and to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Avis and Robert, and survived by his wife, Barb, three children, Kate, Robin and Robby, three grandchildren, Madi, Annie and Shea, his sister Ann, his aunts Shirley MacLean, Nancy McKenzie and many cousins.
A reunion for family and friends in Bob’s memory will be held Sunday, August 19 at Stow Grove, Area 3 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Any donations in Bob’s memory may be made to the Goleta Library.
