1920 - 2012, Santa Barbara
August 17, 1920 - January 17, 2012
Leonard Chersky, 91, of Santa Barbara, California, passed away on January 17, 2012. Born August 17, 1920 in Bronx New York, he lived in the New York metropolitan area until 1995. During WWII he served four years in North Africa and Italy with the U.S. Army Air Corps as an aircraft engine mechanic.
After returning home, he embarked on a career in the printing industry. A photoengraver and lithographer, he studied art at Pratt Institute. After moving to Santa Barbara in 1995, he became an active member in the Santa Barbara Golf Club and eventually ran the Men's Club, organizing tournaments until his "second retirement" in 2009.
Len was an avid skier, golfer and fresh water fisherman, Reading, painting (oils and water color), watching sports (especially the New York Giants!) and doing crossword puzzles were his favorite pastimes. He also was quite accomplished in the kitchen and could make a great Chicken cacciatore!
We'll miss his quick wit, dry sense of humor and the gentle man he was. He is survived by his loving wife Laura, his son David, wife Lauren and grandchildren, Samara Rose and Maxwell Simon.
