Minoru "Minor" Yamada

1939 - 2012, Santa Barbara

On April 22, Minoru “Minor” Yamada passed away after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, and four sons: Eric Rick (Judith) Yamada of Chandler, AZ, Ryan Yamada of Los Angeles, Randy Yamada of San Jose and Robbie Yamada of Dallas, TX; granddaughter, Rebecca Rose; two sisters, Betty Asakura of Los Angeles and Ki Toji of Valencia. Also survived by six nieces and nephews and their families. Preceded in death by brothers, Satoru, Tomomi, Ko (Bill) Yamada and sisters Kay Higashi and June (Yuri) Kimura.

Minor was born in Redwood City, CA on March 11, 1939 to Mitsuzo and Asaye Yamada. His family was interned at Gila Bend Relocation Camp, AZ during the war years. Minor was the youngest of eight children.

Minor worked in the electronics field working first for Lenkurt and Ampex in Redwood City. He relocated to Santa Barbara in 1968 to work for Information Magnetics and later Applied Magnetics. He later worked for TaylorMade golf company in San Diego.

Minor was a long time fan and supporter of the Goleta Boys and Girls Club. He also was active in the Santa Barbara Buddhist Church, and was an avid golfer.

A memorial gathering in honor of Minoru will be held on May 20, 2012, 3:00 PM at the Goleta Boys and Girls Club 5701 Hollister Ave., Goleta, CA 93117.
