David Maertens

David Maertens, 59, passed Thursday, October 18, 2012, at Serenity House after fighting esophageal cancer for three years. He was in remission for 8 months prior to this, where he succeeded in sharing the best of himself with all his friends, neighbors and anyone who ever met him. Born in Santa Barbara at Cottage Hospital, he lived in his hometown most of his life. While "Uncle" never had the blessing of his own little ones, he proudly and lovingly helped raise his nieces, Teresa and Alisha. He was a heavy equipment operator and loved his job with Lash Construction. Dave took pride in every project that was his, and many of the large construction jobs that he worked on are among the most highly regarded in our town.
His family extends our deepest gratitude to all those who helped us through our grief in the loss of such a wonderful man. He leaves behind a close-knit community of people who will always miss him and remember his loving, joyful and honorable ways.
An informal celebration of David's life and love will be held Saturday, November 17, 2012, 5:00 pm at Harry's Plaza Cafe, 3313-B State Street, Santa Barbara, CA, 93105, (805) 687-2800. Please join us and share your favorite remembrances of our beloved David.
