Marcia (Thompson) Canterbury

1951 - 2013

Marcia (Thompson) Canterbury, died of ovarian cancer January 1, 2013, at home, in the forest in Mendocino, Ca., wrapped in the loving arms of her adoring husband of 25 years, Steve Canterbury, her best friend, soul mate and love of her life.

Born in Portland Or. 2/9/51 to Elaine and Bob Thompson (both deceased) Marcia was raised in Santa Barbara from the age of 4, where she attended Jefferson Elementary, Laguna Blanca and graduated from Santa Barbara High School 1969. Upon graduation she worked for the U.S. Forest service in Santa Barbara and later near Angels Camp in Calaveras County, Ca.

Happiest in the forest of Mendocino where she and Steve moved to in 1989, Marcia would create fun and happiness everywhere. A true pioneer woman for sure, Marcia’s gardens and animals could sustain a small country. Marcia was an immensely talented artist and professional potter. She created works of art in quilting, knitting and spinning, sometimes with the wools gathered from her own animals. She bred and raised her beloved parrots Spanky, Gypsy and Chula. She was an avid gardener, traveler, fisherwoman and competitive marksman.

She is survived by her husband Stephen, sisters Janet (Jim) Gomes and Patti (Jim) Werner, stepdaughter Bridget (A.J.) Santella, grandchildren Christian, Kiley and Megan Santella, stepson Jason Sirany, Uncle George Seebart (Joan), cousins Steve (Diane) Seebart and Sue (Drew) Henry and VBFF Heather Wanzer.
