September 28, 2016

Jacob David Franks passed away on September 28th in Carpinteria in a motorcycle accident, just four days before his thirtieth birthday.

Jacob was born in Santa Barbara on October 2nd, 1986, to Lisa and Kevin Franks. Jacob occupied a special place in the family as both the youngest of five children and the only boy. While Jacob’s sisters, Rhondi, Nicole, Shawna and Marisa, were not exactly prepared for a little brother, they did their best, even if it meant using Jacob to play dress up. Jacob loved and adored his sisters and grew to be their protector. Jacob was raised in Goleta and attended Kellogg Elementary, Goleta Valley Junior High and Dos Pueblos High School.

Jacob’s brilliant blue eyes shone with life when he smiled and his presence could light up a room. Jacob was beloved by his family and many friends, who knew him to be a kind, considerate and caring man. Jacob was a consistent source of strength to those close to him. He was generous with his time and resources and was always ready to listen and offer thoughtful advice. His big heart and care for people were rooted in part from the personal pain of a difficult relationship with his father. Jacob worked very hard to forge his own path as a man who demonstrated love by faithful and selfless service to his friends and family. He loved and cherished his mother with his whole heart. Even from a young age his heart’s desire was to protect her and provide for her. He was a wonderful son, the best his mother could ever hope for.

Jacob was preceded in death by his father and is survived by his mother, four sisters, three nieces, six nephews, and faithful companion Luna.

He blessed all of our lives and we are so much richer for having him as a son, brother, uncle and friend. We are brokenhearted. Lord, help us to let go, knowing that he is in Your presence. “Hear my cry, O God; attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Psalm 61:1-2.

We will never forget you Jacob; your memory will live on and you will always be in our hearts. God be with us until we meet again.

Please join us in remembering Jacob and celebrating his life on Friday, October 7th. A memorial service will be held at Calvary Chapel Santa Barbara at 12:30 pm, followed by a burial service at Santa Barbara Cemetery at 2:00 pm and reception at Shalhoob Meat Company. Gifts of flowers may be brought to the service.
