Corinne Marie Underwood, age 95, died peacefully on September 14, 2016. She was a loving presence in the lives of her family and friends. Corinne was born on June 24, 1921 in Jackson, MN, the daughter of Leo and Mathilda Berg. She was raised in New Ulm, MN.

She graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis and went on to become a lieutenant in the US Army at the end of WWII. She was stationed in MN, CO and Germany. Corinne was extremely proud of her service to her country. She continued nursing as a civilian in Santa Monica, CA, in OBGYN/Labor and Delivery.

Corinne was married to Bill Underwood in 1949 until their divorce in 1999. The family spent most of their free time cruising to Cherry Cove on Catalina Island. She and her husband were seasoned travelers. Business took them frequently to Europe and Asia.

Corinne had many skills and interests. She was a gourmet cook, a dedicated bridge player at Santa Barbara Yacht Club and Little Town Club. She was a volunteer docent at the Santa Barbara Art Museum and Lotusland. She enjoyed hiking, swimming and yoga. Reading, listening to classical music, knitting, and enjoying a glass of wine or a martini with her family and friends were all high on her list. Cheers to you, Corinne!!

Corinne was predeceased by her sister, Mary McGuirk. She is survived by her brothers, Leo and Richard Berg and by her sister, Rita Robertson; son, Wm. “Jack” Underwood (Janet) of Los Altos, CA and daughter, Chris Hurwitz (Ken) of Mill Valley, CA as well as four beloved grandchildren; Miles Hurwitz, Dayna Underwood, Paige Hurwitz and Russell Underwood. The family would like to thank the people who cared for and visited Corinne during her last years while she resided at Vista del Monte. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date in Santa Barbara.
