Ernest Brooks was born 5/19/37 and passed away peacefully on 10/24/18. He grew up in Carpinteria. After graduating high school he met and married the love of his life Elizabeth (Betty). They moved to Goleta where he spent the rest of his life. They were married 61 years.

Ernie served honorably in the National Guard. He was a member of the Ojai Chapter of the Masons. He found his passion working for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department where he retired as a Sergeant.

Betty and Ernie enjoyed traveling especially to Albuquerque for the International Balloon Fiesta. They once traveled on their motorcycle from Santa Barbara to Albuquerque, NM to visit their daughter and her family.

Ernie was a member of the Santa Barbara Chapter of the Barber Shop Quartet where he sang bass. He was part of a folk singing trio that occasionally played at the Nexus where he sang and played a stand up bass that he called “Betsy.” He was an avid reader. He especially devoured any books relating to warfare and was an expert on WWII.

He is survived by his wife Betty, loving daughter Patti, son-in-law Dan and their children, Sig, Matt and Heather and 4 great- grandchildren.

He was a kind and gentle soul. He had many friends who will miss him dearly.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, November 18, 2018, 1 pm at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 4575 Auhay Dr., Santa Barbara, CA.
