Debra Alice Stanbro, born September 9, 1956, passed away January 8, 2008 in Santa Barbara, CA.

She was a resident of Santa Barbara, CA; however, she was born and raised on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. She was a graduate of Gulfport East High School, and was a massage therapist and physical trainer. She was an amazing singer/songwriter who performed as the lead singer and one of the founding members of the bands Star, Heater, Pokallus, and Akasha in the late sixties to the mid-eighties. She continued her passion for music with other bands until the early 2000’s. She was a member of the band Debris (also including Kim Hoytt, Bill Hoyt and Don Wilson) which wrote and performed the music for the awarding winning film Mississippi Son (a documentry on Hurrican Katrina.) She loved to hike, bicycle, run,and fish, and she had a deep spirituality and faith in God. She leaves behind many loving friends and family, both in Santa Barbara, and on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

She is preceded in death by her father Dennis Charles Stanbro; her paternal grandparents, Norman A. Stanbro and Hazel G. Stanbro, Hanna Pozzi, and her maternal grandparents, Frank and Alice Burnett.)

She is survived by her mother, Phyllis Whitney; her brothers, Norman and wife Marie, and Gene Stanbro; her nieces and nephews, Norman, Dennis and his wife Stacy, Natalie, and Susan Stanbro, Tammie Bean and Wendie Webster and her husband John; and her life-partner, Kat Carter.

Friends may visit today, January 14, 2008, 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd, Gpt. The Funeral Service is Tuesday, January 15, 2008, 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Floral Hills Memorial Garden.
