City of Death

Santa Barbara

Michael passed away at his home from complications of diabetes. He was much loved and will be greatly missed. He was born in Long Beach, CA, graduated from Millikan HS and attended Long Beach City College. He moved to Santa Barbara in 1971 and was a painter by trade. Michael was an integral part of the Montecito Pet Shop for many years.

Michael was fun loving and outgoing, he made friends easily and always found the humor in life which he shared with his friends and family.

He laughed a lot, and so did we. He treasured those friendships and his many family ties.
His leisure pursuits included surfing, golf and fishing. He enjoyed fishing in Cabo, Alaska, Oregon, Utah, and Montana. He loved the beaches, rivers, and lakes of California and enjoyed angling there, especially in the Kern River wilderness.

He was predeceased by his father, Michael R. Petrich, and will be desperately missed by his mother, Millicent Petrich (Long Beach), sons Joseph, Michael S. and Mathew Petrich (Santa Barbara), and grandson Koyer Petrich (Bozeman MT). Additional surviving family include sisters Sharon Hipp and Susan Petrich, brothers John and Robert, uncle Harold Petrich (Betty), aunts Patricia Perle and Dorothy Taylor, his former wife Jane Petrich, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, including dearest friends Pam Durbiano-Jones and Carmen.

A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2:00 – 4:00 PM at Cafe Del Sol, 30 Los Patos Way, Santa Barbara. In lieu of flowers, please remember Michael by donating to diabetes research or your favorite charity.
