Andre E. Prince, 65, of Santa Barbara, California died Friday, July 10, 2009 due to complications from lung cancer at home surrounded by his family. Born in Manchester, New Hampshire on April 22, 1944, Andy lived in Connecticut for many years before moving to Santa Barbara in 1998.

He is survived by Karen Prince, his wife of 44 years, his sister Germaine and brother-in-law Roy Pinkerton of Chandler, Arizona, two sons, Larry Prince and his fiancee Christy Hunt of Goleta, California and Brian Prince and his wife Jennifer Prince and grandchildren Kelsey and Aiden Prince of Uxbridge, Massachusetts.

Andy worked in a variety of fields including as a manufacturing engineer, tool-and-die maker, and computer programmer. He operated a sign carving business using a machine he designed, built and patented, until he became disabled due to a stroke in 1993.

Shortly after his move to Santa Barbara, he volunteered for 10 years with the Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital Auxiliary, which he loved. He was active in other community organizations dedicated to helping the disabled, including Project Re-Entry, Outlook Group, Mended Hearts, and The Aphasia Support Group. He enjoyed water volleyball, hand-cycling and other adapted activities such as rock climbing and kayaking. Andy took every opportunity to be an ambassador for Santa Barbara showing visitors the parks and all the sights that make it a paradise.

A memorial celebration of Andy’s life will be held from 3-5pm Sunday, July 19, 2009 at 60 Willow Springs Lane, Goleta, CA.
