Hubert Anthony “Tony” Leufkens passed away peacefully on October 2, 2010 at 82.

Tony was born on May 11, 1928 in Indramayu, Java, Indonesia to Dutch parents, Hubert Leufkens and Helene (Dassen) Leufkens. After returning to the Netherlands, Tony served in the Dutch Army and was wounded in battle in 1947. He received the Dutch equivalent of the Purple Heart. Upon meeting and marrying his wife, Jane, the two left the Netherlands for Ontario, Canada where their two eldest sons were born. In 1962 the family hit the road in a VW beetle for Santa Barbara where they made their home and had their next two sons.

Tony is survived by his wife, Jane Leufkens, his four sons, and two grandsons: Roy, his wife Robin, and their son Ryan Leufkens of South Lake Tahoe; Jack Leufkens of Santa Barbara; Mark, his wife Claudia, and their son Sheldon Leufkens of Goleta; Paul Leufkens of Goleta; and his five sisters: Hannie Leufkens, Lien (Leufkens) van Adrichem, Pop (Leufkens) Voorn, Margriet Leufkens all of the Netherlands, and Kitty (Leufkens) Haenraets of Jackson Hole.

Tony worked for Mission Linen until his retirement in 1992. Retirement didn’t slow Tony down; he was a dedicated volunteer at the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden, The Braille Institute, and Santa’s Satellite Workshop. Tony was a regular at the SB Lawn Bowls Club and the Carrillo Rec Center.

No services are planned. Donations in Tony’s memory may be made to any of the above-mentioned charities.
