Doris Green, 38 year resident of Santa Barbara, and beloved Tai Chi, Chi Gong and Alexander Teacher, passed away peacefully in the loving presence of close friends and the care of the wonderful staff of Valle Verde.

Doris was born in Harrisburg, Pa., to Lloyd F. Green and Grace Stevens Green. Her younger brother, Richard L. Green preceded her in death. She was raised in Van Wert, Ohio, where she was an excellent student, singer, actress, pianist, violinist, golfer, swimmer and tumbler. Doris received a B.A. in Psychology from Wilson, College in Chambersburg, Pa., and graduated from Indiana University, with a Masters Degree in Education.

Doris worked at DePauw University where she met her husband, Humbert C. Manzolillo. They lived in Philadelphia, Pa. and had one daughter, Gabriella Green Manzolillo. The family moved to Reading, Pa., where Doris became Dean of Women, at Albright College. She later divorced, lost her job of ten years for standing up for women’s rights and supporting the students’ anti war movement, and then was a victim of a near death car accident. She was told she would never walk again. Doris moved to Santa Barbara during her recovery and was employed at Work Inc.; helping developmentally disabled people achieve independence. She became an avid sailor, studied many modalities including Re-Evaluation Co-counseling, Zen, Alexander Technique, and studied with Lame Deer. Doris suffered another difficult accident. As a result, she attended Alexander School and Tai Chi training. Her mission was to bring healing and inspiration to others through her example. Doris then taught privately and for Adult Ed for 34 years. She was an avid world traveler and was always a friend to China.

Doris leaves behind her daughter, Gabriella Green (Peter Bade), grandsons; Michael Brannon Jr., and Jonathan Horiel, niece, Julia Green Berschauer (Douglas), and grandnephew Christopher, step/granddaughter Chelsea Brannon Rickard (Ian), and great grandson, Thomas.

The Celebration of Doris Green will be held on Sunday, October 30, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Leadbetter Beach in Santa Barbara, West of lifeguard station #2. Bring a chair, wear bright colors, as this is a celebration of her life, her laughter, and what Doris contributed to so many of us. She will live on through her teaching and through those who experienced who she was, and continues to be.
