Dick Edick passed away peacefully at Serenity House in Santa Barbara on Wednesday, October 17, 2012. As Dad, “Uncle Dick”, Grampa and Great Grampa, he is already sorely missed by his loving family.

Born August 16, 1924 in Schenectady, New York, Richard Adam Edick has called Santa Barbara home since 1946. Like many others in his generation he was a “citizen-soldier” during World War II, serving in Italy. After the war ended he married Wilma Wasson and moved to Santa Barbara, where he attended UC Santa Barbara (then known as “Santa Barbara College”, with its campus on the Riviera). He graduated in 1950 with a B.A. in Economics, and his primary career in life was in business management and accounting. His last position before retiring in late 1989 was as head of Accounting at Kilovac in Carpinteria. Prior to his 9 years at Kilovac he was in turn accountant, controller, part-owner and general manager of Electro Kinetics in Santa Barbara for about 16 years.

Dick was sharp, articulate, inventive and talented, with a wry sense of humor. Anything he did, he always did extremely well! His interests included wood working, home remodeling, gardening, reading and puzzle solving. He enjoyed building doll houses and travel with his second wife Laura (Maloney Hutton). He loved music—big band, Dixieland and jazz—western novels, and nature. One of his “favorite places in the entire world” was his uncle Elmer’s farm in Hope, New York, where Dick worked for several summers in his youth. From that early experience he maintained an appreciation for home-craftsmanship, self-sufficiency and all things rural throughout his life.

Dick is survived by his children Kris Buck and her husband Manor (Beau and his fiancé Gabrielle Gamarello, and Brandon), Coni Edick and her husband Joe Doyle, Michael Edick and his wife Lyn (her children Megan, Todd and Wesley), Tom Edick (Amanda and Brian), granddaughter Jennifer Thatcher and her husband Craig (Luke and Jackson), and stepson Jeff Maloney (Jacob and Jason).

He is also survived by his sister-in-law Pat Edick, nephew Ed Edick and Mary Lu, and niece Lynn Edick. Dick was preceded in death by his brothers Art and Bob Edick, first wife Willie Edick, second wife Laura Edick, and son Richard Edick Jr.

We want to express our sincere thanks to Dr. Alan Rosenblum for all his medical support and advice, and to the wonderful staff at Serenity House for their compassionate care during Dick’s final days.

A celebration of Dick’s life will be held on Monday, November 5th, at 1:00 p.m. at Chase Palm Park Center (236 E. Cabrillo Boulevard, Santa Barbara). In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Dick’s name to Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care in Santa Barbara, the Santa Barbara Humane Society or the Santa Barbara Zoo.

Dad, we miss you so much and will love you always!!
