Backfire nears Cuyama River. By stopping the burn about halfway down the slope rather than igniting the brush all the way down to the river, the fire is forced to "back down" the hill. Because the wind is blowing to the left and slightly uphill here, by the time the flames reach the river the fire is almost out.
