HALF-KIDDING: After five years of deliberation, Planning Commissioner John Jostes threatened to set his hair on fire and “run screaming out of the building” if he had to attend another workshop. But in the meantime, Jostes — a high-powered mediator — managed to craft a compromise that might just fly with the dueling factions concerned about Santa Barbara’s growth during the next 20 years.
