Like State Street... The parade and festival seems to become more cheesy and synthetic each year. Let's hope the tourists don't notice!
Because of an outlandish ensemble many years ago which featured a sexual bondage theme, guidelines and regulations for all floats and participants in the Solstice Parade since have been strictly enforced. There can be no words, no symbols, no nudity, floats must be people-powered, and "cannot represent physical harm to any human being. The representation of blood (fake or otherwise), dominance/violence, and or sadmasochistic behavior is not appropriate ... no whips, guns, knives, or weapons of any kind, or props intended to represent weapons of any kind are allowed."
(Unless you have an undocumented cart selling plastic light up swords made in far east sweat shops!)
Long Live the Queen....

Huh. I just came across my photo of that S & M couple, taken at the Solstice Parade many, many years ago. I love how people still remember that man and his female friend/wife. Those were some outré outfits, no doubt about it. The man ended up getting busted for running a whore house on Canon Perdido, between Chapala and De La Vina (I think that was the location). Talk about "local color."
I never go to see the Parade anymore, but I think loads of people enjoy it and I love to see the photos. So much hard work goes into those costumes. My particular favorite this year has to be the "Orca" guys in their "budgie smugglers" (speedos). Hooray for Solstice Parade!

Does it annoy anyone else that every year, no one seems to abide by the theme? (OK, I exaggerate. Maybe three groups actually portrayed something to do with the theme this year: "Games People Play.") We are still seeing various marine animals and all the re-hashed stuff from years previous. VERY annoying!!

Definitely ironic.... Game of Thrones depicts blood lust and political treachery.Video games are at best considered an "electronic distraction".
Somebody obviously forgot to do some legwork on the meaning of Solstice. (When the money talks the BS walks!)
