The Solimar Fire, which scorched more than 1,200 acres and shut down Highway 101 traffic between Carpinteria and Ventura in both directions, started late Christmas night by arcing power lines in high winds. Concerns now are that, should El Niño storms arrive soon, mudslides could cause the same closures.
