Wildfire officials orchestrating the attack on the Rey Fire have closed East Camino Cielo Road at Painted Cave and Gibraltar roads as firefighters use the narrow, winding roadway “as transport to the eastern flank” and “to build contingency lines,” according to Cheryl Chipman with incident command. Over the weekend, East Camino Cielo was a popular go-to vista for the general public to get a good look at the wind-driven blaze, now predominately burning northwest toward the Dick Smith Wilderness.

An evacuation order remains in effect for Paradise Road and its recreation areas, Los Prietos Boys Camp, and parts of Stagecoach Road. Campgrounds will remain closed through the weekend. Highway 154 is open.
