Santa Barbara Medical Clinic Foundation
Santa Barbara Clinic was founded in 1921 by three physicians (Rexwald Brown, MD; Benjamin Bakewell, MD; and Hilmar Koefod, MD) who formed a carefully designed group practice designed to make comprehensive specialty care available to all segments of Santa Barbara at a time when solo practitioners provided most of the care.
In 1973, the physician owners transferred the clinic's assets into a new nonprofit: Santa Barbara Medical Clinic Foundation. Since that time, the foundation has contracted with the physician group for health care services, while a local board of trustees administers the foundation's work to benefit of the people of the community.
Sansum Clinic's mission is to provide excellence in comprehensive healthcare through teamwork, community collaboration, research and education.
The values that guide us are:
Integrity, trust and accountability.
Commitment to superior service.
Team work and respect.
Individual worth and diversity.
