Great insight into the policital preferences of the Indy reader (liberal - big surprise), but not necessarily of the average voter.

What JohnLocke fails to accept is the nonliberal alternative is the superminority in this region. Look at the candidates, far more what you would call "left" or "liberal" or "progressive" than the opposite.
People are deluding themselves if they really think it's a fifty/fifty split- especially in this area.
I think Hotchkiss will do about the same in November as he is showing here, unless there's a sudden gas shortage.

I believe that people here are beginning to understand that by handing control of the City over to the tax and spenders, they are destroying our future and will vote accordingly. Or, they will continue to vote as they have, demonstrating the old saying that to repeat the same actions and expect a different outcome is the definition of insanity and watch while SB slides further into insolvency as its infrastructure decays.

Although the majority in SB vote liberal in national elections, their voting record in local elections is a different story. The agenda of the high-density anti-car crowd scares the bejesus out of most SB party-line liberals. The current makeup of the council proves my point.

Looks like Frankie Baby's goose is cooked, whatcha think bout that John Locke? hehhehe
The current make up of the council actually proves my point about the races being saturated with sane candidates so the zealots like Francisco sneak in.

Who is Michael Jordan?

Is David Landecker the one on the forgive-me-please tour?

Michael Jordon is an insurance agent who is currently a planning commissioner. He also was on the SB creeks advisory board:

Jordon was famously (or infamously) in favor of developer Mark Lee's Yes on Y campaign which was ultimately defeated by a wide margin:

What's surprising are the large number of votes for Hart and the lack of them for White, especially here on this left-predictable Indy. Not surprising that Hotchkiss gets few here - and that Diaz Alley gets so many. Lots of EDC people here....

Considering the SB indy is easily the region and the city's top online news source (many more read than comment) I think it's a really good indicator of what to expect come election time. But hey waste your money on an 8% candidate.
And nobody on the mighty right is willing to go up against Schneider? I guess Francisco realizes he has too much baggage.

Megan Diaz Alley should get more scrutiny; I'm leaning in her direction. JL has a point that many of us voters [both parties!!] have been "handing control of the City over to the tax and spenders". But let's do tax downtown merchants more, and raise the bed tax on tourists, as we also pare down City expenses. More monies for youth centers and things for the young to do, both training and academic education, and maybe Alley and Murillo can lead the City into ways to defuse our gang violence issue. Don't think the gang injunction will help much.

Ironically, EDC gets much funding from our local gov. So the taxpayers are paying for EDC candidates who run for office? Sounds like another cozy deal similar to the public employee unions'.

And by all means, lets tax the private sector more in SB. Like its's not already dying. Seen the financials in Goleta lately? Yes, Goleta's not as pretty as SB, but at least they seem to understand the need for private business to provide jobs and fund government activities.

And with the homeless problem affecting tourists, adding to hotel costs doesn't seem real smart.

Hopefully there are enough voters with basic financial sense to get Hotchkiss back in office.

Hotchkiss has shown his contempt for both the democratic process and the voters of SB repeatedly.

If Hotkiss is so wonderfully responsible and moderate, such a dedicated public official, why wasn't he at this MTD meeting?
Because he's only here to suck money out of the community and run it into the ground.

EastBeach: articles in Indy and NP several weeks ago. Apparently part of some kind of settlement with the County.

K_V your powers of thought are disabled by your prejudice. How, exactly, is Hotchkiss "sucking money" out of the community? And the comment about running it into the ground was an obvious typo (or braino) on your part. Its the Left who have been running the community into the ground. Large maintenance backlogs ($200MM in the city) while proclaiming a balanced budget? Budget forecasts that assume a 7.5% average annual return on the pension investment fund when the rest of the world is assuming several points less, while proclaiming a budget surplus?

And whether or not Hotchkiss was at the MTD meeting may or may not have something to do with his being a "responsible and moderate... dedicated public official", or maybe he had a wedding to go to, like your boy Das.

Hotchkiss has shown "his contempt for both the democratic process and the voters"? Sounds more like Obama to me. And I voted for the man, Obama that is (much to my chagrin).

Oh "JohnLocke", your desperate defense of that 19th century ham is a real gutbuster. One would almost think you're him.
Hotchkiss time and again has proven his contempt of both the community and the voters. He has purposeflly lied and smeared civic officials to promote his own career. He'll be joining Michael Self in November.

@local, you could be right.

It's still early, but my spidy sense says White and Hart have a good shot at being among the top three.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hotchkiss made a game showing only because conservatives' votes won't be as diluted since they have fewer candidates to choose from.

What liberals need right now is a weak conservative candidate to dilute Frank's potential voter base. Perhaps someone like Lanny "Privatize Everything" Ebenstein.

Based on what people tell me, Hotchkiss has alienated even Conservatives. Many "Conservative"s here aren't happy about the cruise ships for example. In addition he supported the destruction of Veronica Meadows via Measure Y, and we know how popular that was. I think many Conservatives in this area are more concerned with issues like these which Hotchkiss gets poor marks on. They want less change and development, not more.

Holy Cow! Stop! Nobody should draw ANY conclusions from an online poll. These things are just junk - fun, but junk. The results could be completely skewed by one person calling up a few friends to alert them of this poll. If you really want better political prognostication, go read some chicken entrails.

Speaking of prognostication, JohnLocke is a sure winner. He sagely observes that people will vote differently than they have in the past or they will vote the same as in the past. Hey, I'm convinced. Got any stock market tips, JohnLocke?

While Landecker 2.0 was a worthy reboot (i.e. after leaving the council), I doubt anyone is going to let the voters forget about the Home Improvement incident. Though whoever brings it up might be accused of negative campaigning.

I have respect for the EDC, but having two affilicated candidates on the slate (Landecker and Alley) makes me think the Ralph Nader effect will be in play. Hotchkiss will be the natural beneficiary.

First I really wish JohnLocke and Ken Volok would exchange emails, engage their own debate and spare the rest of us having to scroll through their drivel! This poll is completely irrelevant to the election, it is too early and most voters haven't seen it yet. I do think the Indy could run a valid and interesting poll and I hope they do so. Instead of the question asked, I suggest allowing 3 votes. Some will vote for only 1, others for 3 and as the election approaches I believe it could be valid and interesting. On substance, I expect Bendy White to be the top vote getter and I would be shocked if he did not get a seat. I will not vote for Hotchkiss but I will be surprised if he doesn't come in third again as he did in his last election. All the Republicans will vote for him, all the rest vie for the same pool of voters and he comes in third. I expect the Democratic machine delivers Gregg Hart but no one has yet overcome the term limit issue. Will he be the first? Megan Alley has the Democratic machine (which was ineffective in the last election) and an aggressive Cathy Murrillo but as a lifetime local it bothers the heck out of me that someone from out of state who has lived here for 5 years, presumes to be a community leader. Don't we have any locals or at least longtime residents qualified for the job? Wiscomb seems an appealing candidate but this may become a political dogfight and is she up to that? Will be interesting and difficult to predict.

Matthew Kramer is not listed by the City as a candidate:

There was a Matthew Hunter Kramer who ran for Mayor back in 2005. That same individual was arrested for pulling a gun on a Republican Party official in Las Vegas in 2007:

Here's a photo of our gun-toting mayoral wannabe local:

Matthew Hunter Kramer also blogged recently about a successfull cold fusion experiment he conducted:

There is, however, also a Matthew Allen Kramer in SB.

Scary, I don't congratulate the current council nor the previous year council. I need change so it clearly doesn't make a whole lot of sense for me to vote for candidates who are so highly supported by the current council like Megan Diaz Alley and Greg hart are. Should turn out to be a very exciting election for this town;I can already picture all the sign posted all over town. Personally I support David Landecker and Mike Jordan.
