Wouldn't you need to know if that is even possible before voting on it? Can local government do something like that without the State of California or the U.S. Government stopping them? What are the facts?

GOO don't need no steenkin' facts. They'd rather catapult us 300 years into the past. Or let someone else drill somewhere else in true NIMBY fashion.

The Oil Industry lives by the motto "It is easier to apologize than ask permission." Plains American is making over one BILLION DOLLARS a year!!! They've had 175 major violations in the last nine years and paid only $25 million in penalties. What's a few million to clean up an oil spill when you are raking in billions? Time to utilize energy providers who care about the earth and it's environment!

Sounds like the motto for our immigration system as well.

How exactly do you plan to get the oil out? Draining all those seep holes would cost some serious tax dollars. Shouldn't we just ask the illegals to sneak across the border and steal the oil like they did the jobs?

I have yet to hear from GOO how they will live without transportation, plastics, nylon, tires, and the myriad other items that come from oil. Or are they just NIMBYs wanting someone/somplace else to shoulder the risk?

Tourist:"Get Oil Out" is a religious chant in these parts. . . a silly orthodoxy that makes no sense whatsoever. Those uttering this chant, came (and will leave) in oil-fired cars. They live in conspicuous Santa Barbara opulance, all fired mostly on oil and gas. All of these conveniences are their right.
They apparently dont have a clue how silly they look

hey tourist, any other burrs under your saddle besides illegal immigrants you want to throw in here. might as well throw your list up here and get it off your narrowminded chest, even though its irrelevant. as in totally irrelevant. as in ridiculously irrelevant.
you can't get oil out, but by speaking up, you can attempt to make enough noise to force the oil companies to improve standards.
or hang there like useless dingleberries and sling barbs at those that make the effort.
spacey is succinct and accurate.

spacey is indeed succinct and accurate. So, GOOers, change your chant to something asking for better regulation and enforcement. All American's pipeline didn't have an automatic shutoff valve because some government body allowed them a loophole in a law.

If we stopped making wars, oil would be so cheap that it would be too expensive to produce here. There is so much oil in Russia, Africa, and the Middle East that we can't justify offshore drilling except in the context of idealogical disputes. We can't change the world, but we can stop oil production in SB. This is a local government matter. If the State disputes that then we change the State rules. If it becomes a Federal matter, then we have found our fight.
Get Oil Out!
