ROBERT HANNIGAN APPOINTED GENERAL MANAGER OF
HOTEL PALOMAR LOS ANGELES-WESTWOOD AND
REGIONAL DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
LOS ANGELES (July 15, 2014) — Twenty-year hospitality veteran Robert Hannigan has added regional director of operations to the myriad titles he has held and departments he has mastered throughout his tenure. Hannigan is the newly appointed general manager of The Hotel Palomar Los Angeles-Westwood, a Kimpton Hotel, as well as operations director of Kimpton’s The Hotel Wilshire in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara’s Canary Hotel and Goleta’s Hotel Goleta. Hannigan’s experience in every aspect of hotel and restaurant operations makes him the perfect person for these responsibilities.
Hannigan started his career with Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants in 2007 and has traversed the country since then. He began in Washington, D.C. and Alexandria, VA, first as assistant general manager directing overall hotel operations of front office, housekeeping, room service and security departments, then as general manager of his first hotel, Kimpton’s Morrison House, named to Conde Nast’s ‘Gold List of Best Hotels in the World’ five years running. There he was responsible for overall operations of the hotel. He then headed west in 2012 as general manager of the Hotel Solamar in San Diego and recently landed in Los Angeles.
Says Hannigan, “Kimpton has an extraordinary commitment to its culture. General managers are at the housekeeping lineup each morning, attend daily operations meetings, frequently walk the building, are out on the floor and, of course, finish the day by hosting our legendary Wine Hour. Being able to draw on inspiration from a variety of sources, including guest interactions, working with our amazing team or being inspired by the various architectural elements and appreciating the greatness around you allows you to constantly improve upon what you’re delivering in your hotel, whether it’s service, product or design.”
Hannigan was first introduced to the hospitality industry during college working summers at a beautiful hotel on Block Island off the coast of Newport, R.I. He found that he was naturally inclined for the job and loved being a part of the operation, working with guests and staff. Says Hannigan, “It’s like having front row seats to the greatest show on earth.” He then held a variety of positions in the industry in Aspen, Snowmass and Denver, CO and New York City.
Hannigan lives and breathes the Kimpton ethos, saying, “We work as hard on making it a great place to work as we do a great place to stay. All of the efforts we put into our employees are repaid to the guest tenfold, so it works for everyone.”
While wearing many hats may keep most mortals from achieving work-life balance, Hannigan relishes whatever his backyard has to offer. He enjoyed skiing and biking in Colorado, in Washington DC he was a fan of the museums and history of the area. In San Diego and Los Angeles, he is back outdoors again on his bike or out with his dogs.
