Chef Jason Paluska of The Lark teams with Michael Larner, Owner of Larner Vineyard and Winery, to present the next of The Lark’s series of “Local Treasures.” The Lark’s “Local Treasures” dinners feature one of the many craftsmen of food and drink in the Santa Barbara area. On Sunday, August 24, Paluska’s five course dinner of seasonal and locally sourced products will be skillfully paired with Larner’s distinguished wines. By introducing neighboring farmers, fishermen, ranchers, distillers, winemakers, and other producers to guests, diners will have the opportunity to discover the region’s “Local Treasures” and learn more about the many food and beverage artisans to be discovered in this series of community gatherings. Pricing for the dinner is $125 excluding taxes and gratuity. Winemaker Michael Larner will be present to meet guests and talk about his distillery and products.

Larner Vineyard and Winery is dedicated to meticulous farming where they prepare the wine programs a year in advanced. Their award winning fruit has set the vineyard apart as a “Californian Grand Cru”, stated by Wine Critic Robert Parker, Jr. The family-run vineyard is located at the heart of the best grape-growing region in Santa Barbara: Ballard Canyon in the Santa Ynez Valley. Larner produces limited production and ultra-premium wines from grapes varieties including Rhône varieties Syrah, Grenache. Mourvedre and Viognier. As a small tribute to Italy, the Larners also have one block of Malvasia Bianca.

The Lark pays homage to the history of California train travel and tributes the treasured and long gone Santa Barbara Fish Market. Built in the 1920’s, the original commercial fish processing plant shipped their seafood products throughout the state by rail. With an imaginative yet approachable menu created by the gifted Jason Paluska, The Lark celebrates everything found around Santa Barbara County – wineries, farms, ocean and natural beauty. Michael Larner is not only a member of the Santa Barbara’s Vintners Association, but he was also an integral founder of the group that proposed the Ballard County AVA. Although Ballard Canyon is located in the Santa Ynez AVA, its unique soils and climate help to produce distinguishing red grape wines, such as Syrah, Grenache, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc and white grapes such as Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier and Roussanne, which allow it to have its own AVA.
