July 1, 2014 – Yesterday, we learned of the murders of three Israeli teens, 19-year-old Eyal Yifrach,
and Naftali Fraenkel (a dual US-Israeli citizen) and Gilad Shaar, both 16-years-old.
They were kidnapped from a public bus stop on June 12th, their bodies discovered nearly three weeks later by Israeli soldiers.
We stand with Israel and join Jewish communities and nations around the world in mourning the unspeakable loss of these three boys
and send our deepest condolences to their families and loved ones. Nothing can justify the senseless violence of their deaths.
As a community, we will honor the memories of Eyal, Naftali and Gilad this evening at a memorial service at 6:30 pm,
to be held at the Jewish Federation of Greater Santa Barbara, 524 Chapala Street, Santa Barbara. We will be joined by
Rabbi Steve Cohen and Cantor Mark Childs of Congregation B’nai B’rith, Rabbi Arthur Gross-Schaefer of the
Community Shul of Montecito and Santa Barbara and Rabbi Evan Goodman of Santa Barbara Hillel.
We invite the Santa Barbara community as a whole to join us as we remember these young men and pray for a more peaceful future.
