Santa Barbara’s Carr Winery Celebrates 15th Anniversary!

SANTA BARBARA, CA (October 16, 2014)– Carr Winery is celebrating 15 incredible years! This is a journey that has taken them from Santa Ynez Valley to Santa Barbara and back again.

Ryan Carr is the principal owner, winemaker, and grower for Carr Vineyards & Winery. In the late 1990s, Ryan moved to the Santa Ynez Valley in Central California where he discovered the wine industry. After working in several SYV vineyards, getting his hands in the soil (literally), Ryan decided in 1999 to make his own Cabernet Sauvignon…in his garage…from grapes he helped to grow at a vineyard down the road. The first-ever Carr vintage was a whopping 10 cases and was given away to friends and family who, much to his surprise, loved the wine. Carr Winery was born. After making a drinkable, if not darn-right delicious, wine from grapes he had grown himself, Ryan knew this is where he belonged.

Over the years, Ryan honed his winemaking and grape-growing skills and brought his wife Jessica on board to help expand and develop the winery. Part of that expansion came from creating their first white wine, a Pinot Gris, in 2004. Only a year later in 2005, Ryan and Jessica moved the operation to Santa Barbara, where they shared a space with other winemakers at Cellar 205. By this time, Carr Winery was making just over 1,000 cases and had become nationally recognized, scoring 94 points for their Pinot Noir in Wine Enthusiast magazine.

In the spring of 2007, Carr Winery opened its own doors in a refurbished Quonset hut in the location you all know today. The winery remains one of only seven full-production wineries and tasting rooms in the downtown Santa Barbara area. Retracing their steps back to where they started, Carr Winery also opened a second tasting room at their warehouse location in the town of Santa Ynez in 2012.

Today, 15 years after that first Cabernet Sauvignon, Carr produces 4,500 cases a year, distributing their products up and down the California coast as well as in five other states from Texas to North Carolina. The Carr’s produce, barrel, and bottle all their wines right in the heart of Santa Barbara—in that repurposed Quonset hut, which they have made into the hippest, most sought-after tasting room in the region.
To celebrate, Carr Winery is hosting a 15th anniversary party on Friday, Oct. 24th from 6pm-10pm. Fall releases and library wines will be served, along with catering and music. Proceeds will benefit Santa Barbara’s Breast Cancer Resource Center.
