Perking Up Central Coast - McDonald’s Free Coffee

Second national McCafé free coffee event kicks off
on Sept. 16 and culminates on National Coffee Day, Sept. 29

SANTA BARBARA, CALIF. – Sept. 15, 2014 – McDonald’s announced a second national Free Coffee Event, an opportunity for even more coffee lovers to enjoy a freshly brewed, rich and smooth tasting McCafé coffee.

From Sept. 16 to 29, guests can get a free small McCafé coffee during breakfast hours at participating McDonald’s restaurants across the country. However, the local Central Coast restaurants are providing a complimentary cup of small McCafé coffee all day. This event builds on McDonald’s first-ever national Free Coffee Event launched in March, where the company gave away millions of cups of free coffee during the two-week period.

“Last spring, the local response to the first national Free Coffee Event was exceptional and it inspired us to provide even more customers the opportunity for a morning pick-me-up and the chance to enjoy McCafé coffee on us,” said local Owner-Operator and Central Coast Co-Op President Dana Cook. “We’re taking the national promotion a step further and offering all day a free small cup of McDonald’s signature drip-coffee that’s made with 100 percent Arabica beans as well as encouraging the community to come see the different menu options McDonald’s has for breakfast and throughout the day.”

To celebrate the two weeks of free coffee, McDonald’s is calling on people across the nation to “sip and tell” their embarrassing pre-coffee moments on social media with @McCafe using the hashtag #SipandTell. Select social media fans with morning mishap stories like missing the last train to work on Monday or leaving the house with mismatched shoes will be surprised by @McCafe with custom gifts and experiences to help start their morning off right.

Central Coast McDonald’s also invites customers to “Spill the Beans” and share their pre-coffee mishaps with local participating radio stations for a chance to win one free breakfast a week for 52 weeks. Each day during the Free Coffee event (Sept. 16-29) a lucky winner will be selected by local radio stations – Le Buena FM 105.1, (Santa Maria), 99.9 KTYD (Santa Barbara) and Q104.5 (San Luis Obispo) – for a total of 42 Central Coast winners.
In addition, local McDonald’s staff will be delivering a free coffee “break”, a carafe of fresh brewed coffee, to several community organizations and first responder crews in recognition of all they do to make our neighborhoods a special place to work and live.
McDonald’s first launched its McCafé line in the U.S. in 2009. The collection included McCafé signature blend coffee and quickly expanded to include iced coffees, espresso-based drinks, such as lattes and mochas, blended-ice beverages including smoothies and frappes as well as limited-time seasonal offerings. This holiday season, customers can again enjoy the White Chocolate Mocha, in addition to the new White Chocolate Latte and Hot Chocolate, for a limited-time.
McCafé fans in Central Coast and nationwide will soon be able to enjoy their coffee whenever they want, including at home. McDonald’s recently announced a collaboration with Kraft Foods Group, Inc. to offer a variety of McCafé ground, whole bean and single cup coffees in grocery stores and other retailers nationwide starting in early 2015.
