The 3rd Annual Montecito Motor Classic Weekend will begin Friday Sept. 19th with the Gala held at the Montecito Country Club, followed by the Vintage Car Tour to area Senior Homes on Friday Sept. 19th and Saturday Sept. 20th, and the Montecito Motor Classic on Sunday Sept. 21st along Coast Village Road. Tickets are still available for the GALA.
The Montecito Motor Classic show will draw 150 rare and distinguished classic cars and motorcycles from Montecito, Santa Barbara and the South Coast. The public is invited to attend the free show on Sunday from 8am to 3pm. All proceeds benefit the Santa Barbara Police Activities League (PAL) and the Santa Barbara Police Foundation.
The event co-chairs Dolores Johnson and Dana Newquist and committee of 40 volunteers have teamed up to produce a spectacular event. The Gala kicks off with a silent auction and h’ordeuvres, along with complementary wine at 5pm at the Montecito Country Club. The Gala features exciting live auction items including a ride in a Douglas A-26 Invader twin-engine light bomber plus travel and stay in Houston, all donated by Million Air; the famous Apartmentat the Montecito Inn with dinner from the Montecito Cafe for six, a Christmas Parade Ride for 12 on Dana Newquist’s Antique Firetruck, a tour for 12 of the world famous Vault at the Petersen Automotive Museum, 2 VIP tickets to the Petersen Automotive Museum 2015 grand opening, and a trip to the Reagen Ranch with lunch. These exciting items will be available for bid by the Gala guests. A limited number of sponsor tables and Gala tickets are available at www.sbpal.org The Gala honors internationally renowned Motorsport photographer Jessie Alexander who recently published his new book Monaco, The Golden Age of the Grand Prix, capturing the magic of Monaco and the Grand Prix. Jessie has been involved in motor sport photography since the 1950’s.
On Friday and Saturday, The Senior Home Vintage Car Tour will be visiting Casa Dorinda, Friendship Center, Villa Santa Barbara and other senior centers. The tour was inspired by Dolores Johnson in recognition of her mother’s inability to attend the Motor Classic and her desire to enjoy the cars. The tour, coordinated for the second year by Alma Rose Middleton, brings enjoyment and memories to seniors who interact with the car owners and participants.
The area’s first Model Car Building Competition for youth will be held at the Montecito Motor Classic on Sunday Sept. 21st at 12 noon. In an effort to invite youth to learn about classic cars, boys and girls from PAL, The Montecito YMCA, and Santa Barbara New Life Church will be participating. Youth will create models of a 57 Chevy Bel Air, a Shelby Mustang GT, a Chevy El Camino, and a Shelby Cobra 427 for judging in various age groups. The event will be judged by Mark Stehrenberger, famed car designer and instructor at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Youth winners will receive trophy’s presented by Michael A. Hammer, the Armand Hammer Foundation presenting sponsor for the Montecito Motor Classic.
The Montecio Motor Classic will excite car enthusiasts with 10 classes of cars and motorcycles in a spectacular display of models and colors. The Petersen Automotive Museum will feature a surprise classic from their special collection, shown for the first time in Santa Barbara, along with cars from Michael Hammer’s collection and other area collectors, including many Santa Barbara Cars and Coffee members. One of a kind trophy’s were created by Dana Newquist, show co-chair and ZFolio Galleries. Car judging will be led by Roy Miller, Pebble Beach judge and head judge for the Palos Verdes Concours d’Elegance. Awards will be presented at 2pm in front of Cava Restaurant.
