Solvang, California, USA – For the third time in its 23-year history, the Taste of Solvang hosted a Dessert Contest open to amateurs and professionals aged 18 years or older who live or work in the Santa Ynez Valley. The winners competed during the public Sips & Sweets event held on Friday, March 24, 2015. Best Dessert–People’s Choice was voted by the 300 attendees. The Best Dessert–Amateur and Best Dessert–Professional were chosen by three judges: Peg Ivy, author of A Dash of Southern; George Yatchisin of the Santa Barbara Independent and Allison Levine, wine writer. The three winners received a custom 2015 Taste of Solvang ribbons bragging rights for a year according to event organizers.

2015 Best Dessert–People’s Choice: Lana Clark and her grand-daughter MacLaine Watson prepared and served their family’s favorite recipe of English Toffee. A Solvang resident since 1971, Clark is an attorney in private practice in Solvang. She loves to cook and share her treats; as well as sharing her time as a volunteer board member with the Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital Foundation and Santa Ynez Valley Bar Association.

2015 Best Dessert–Amateur: Celi Ribit wowed the judges with her Chocolate Espresso Pot de Crème. Originally from Santa Barbara, Rebit has lived in the Santa Ynez Valley for 12 years; works at Solvang School and teaches cooking classes there as well as through Solvang Parks & Recreation. A mother of three, Rebit has always loved to spend time in the kitchen. This was the first cooking contest she has ever entered.

2015 Best Dessert–Professional: Partners Carol Krivulka and Kim Jensen of Ingeborg’s Danish Chocolates impressed the judges with their Sea Salt Butterscotch Caramels in Milk and Dark Chocolate. Located at 1679 Copenhagen Drive in downtown Solvang, Ingeborg’s has specialized in hand-crafted chocolates using the finest, freshest ingredients and no preservatives or additives made on premises daily since 1960.
The Taste of Solvang is presented by the Solvang Conference & Visitors Bureau since 1993 with sponsorship support this year from the City of Solvang, Visit the Santa Ynez Valley (VisitSYV), OnQ Financial, Graphic Systems and 805 Living Magazine.
