Plant an Acorn, Grow an Oak at Solvang Library

“He who plants a tree, plants a hope.” On Saturday, April 11 at 10:30am, the Solvang Library will host an Oak Acorn Planting Workshop for children and their parents. The workshop is sponsored by the Water Wise Gardening Committee of W.E. Watch. The Solvang Library is located at 1745 Mission Drive in Solvang.

“We will plant oak acorns into containers with spongy soil and mulch. Children will take their planted acorns home, water and watch oak saplings grow!” said Carol Herrera, workshop leader. Herrera, a local ranch owner and former president of W.E. Watch, has collected healthy acorns from her ranch’s ancient valley oaks, quercus lobata.

Families are encouraged to pre-register for the workshop, either by email at or by calling the Solvang Library at (805) 688-4214.

W.E. Watch is a non-profit educational organization committed to maintaining the beauty, sustainability and integrity of the Santa Ynez Valley for the benefit of current residents and future generations.
