The Santa Barbara City Council will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. to discuss increased enforcement of unpermitted Short-Term Vacation Rentals and review a proposed work program to amend the Zoning Ordinance to permit, regulate and tax Home Sharing Rentals.
On June 23, 2015, the City Council directed staff to enforce the City’s existing Zoning Ordinance regarding Vacation Rentals, and develop an enhanced enforcement plan. The Council also directed staff to return with a work plan to amend the Zoning Ordinance to allow Home Sharing Rentals.
A Vacation Rental is the rental of an un-hosted dwelling unit to guests for less than 30 consecutive days. Guests pay a nightly fee and enjoy the exclusive private use of the unit. Home Sharing Rentals occur when a resident hosts visitors in their home for less than 30 consecutive days. Although guests pay a nightly fee, typically, the primary resident is present during a Home Sharing Rental. Currently, all residential short-term rentals (stays of less than 30 consecutive days) that are not permitted as hotels, motels or bed and breakfasts are in violation of the Zoning Ordinance.
You are invited to attend this hearing and address your verbal comments to the City Council. Written comments are also welcome up to the time of the hearing, and should be addressed to the City Council via the City Clerk’s Office, P.O. Box 1990, Santa Barbara, CA 93102- 1990.
The public meeting will be held in the Council Chambers, 2nd floor, City Hall at 735 Anacapa Street.
