DEVEREUX CA Receives Generous Grant From the Union Bank Foundation

Devereux California would like to thank Union Bank for their generous $2,500 grant and continued generosity and support of the Devereux Greenhouse expansion project. This is the second year that Union Bank has supported this important effort. The greenhouse is a vital and growing program and part of the catalogue of offerings at the Devereux CA Day Program, which operates Monday through Friday, 9 am to 3 pm, serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorders and/or emotional and behavioral disorders.
Our goal is to expand the types of plants that the Devereux CA Greenhouse program grows and sells, and to increase the number of venues where we sell our product, such as at more of the many other Certified Farmers’ Markets in the Santa Barbara and Goleta area (Currently you can find us at both Calle Real farmers markets, the Montecito farmers market, and the Isla Vista co-op. This expansion will enable additional participants to take part in the benefits of learning and practicing new skills such as customer service, counting money and giving change, pricing and selling plants, setting up the physical booths, and other social skills. With increased space, additional materials/supplies, and additional hours that Devereux staff can devote to training and supervising the Greenhouse and Farmers’ Market activities, we will be able to expand this unique and rewarding experience to more clients enrolled at our Day Program.
Currently we grow and sell drought resistant succulents, herbs, and veggie starters. With the additional funds, we plan to add new lines of shrubs, grasses and flowers, many of which could be some of our better sellers as they are California Natives. This will, in turn, expand the quantity and quality of product we sell at the Farmers’ Markets. We also want to improve our availability of product by delivering to residences and businesses, and supplying local markets. We just recently opened our greenhouse to the public every Friday morning, 9 am to noon. We house all of the plants we sell at the farmers markets in addition to some very large ones that we do not transport. So please stop by to visit soon.
Thanks to Union Bank we will be able to expand and improve the Greenhouse program in a variety of ways and watch it continue to thrive and grow. The Union Bank Foundation is a nonprofit public benefit corporation established by Union Bank and serves to invest in the local area.
We are very grateful to have the support of a partner like Union Bank Foundation, a company that encourages local nonprofits to flourish and progress through financial assistance. This year Devereux CA celebrates 70 years of providing quality behavioral health services in residential, day, supported living and independent living programs to over 100 adults throughout Santa Barbara County. Established by Special Education Pioneer Helena T. Devereux in Pennsylvania in 1912, and in 1945 in California, Devereux is one of the largest national nonprofit providers of behavioral health care services in the country.
