Public Comment Meeting Scheduled on Emergency Permit Application for Thursday, August 13

The City of Goleta received an application from Venoco, Inc., on July 27 for an emergency permit to evacuate lines and storage tanks and truck previously-produced crude oil while it performs inspections and maintenance of the pipeline. The application only applies to oil produced prior to the May 2015 shutdown of Platform Holly. The request estimates approximately a total of 34 truckloads over 17 days. A letter of support from the State Lands Commission was submitted with the original application. Further information was requested by the City on July 31 and Venoco submitted its response on August 7. (Documents can be found here:

A meeting to hear public comment will be held on Thursday, August 13 at 6 p.m. to allow the public to comment on this request. The meeting will be held in City Council Chambers at 130, Cremona Drive, Suite B. Public comments should be submitted to emergencypermit@cityofgoleta.org or mailed to Jennifer Carman, Director of Planning & Environmental Review, 130 Cremona Drive, Suite B, Goleta, CA 93117.

The meeting on August 13 is solely to receive public comment. No decision will be made at the meeting.
