Santa Barbara, Calif.– Renowned Chef Michael Mina of The Michael Mina Group will be the guest chef for the 2016 Santa Barbara Wine Auction, slated for Saturday, March 12 at the Bacara Resort and Spa in Goleta. This biennial auction hosted by the Santa Barbara Vintners Foundation benefits Direct Relief, a Goleta based medical relief organization that provides medical supplies and services nationally as well as internationally. Chef Mina of the Michael Mina Group will oversee the evening’s four course dinner for 600 guests.
A James Beard Award winning chef, Michael Mina is renowned for his innovative twists on classic dishes and his focus on balance of flavors. Born in Cairo, Egypt and raised in Washington State, Michael’s love affair with the kitchen started at an early age and led him to receive formal training at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. Today, his Michael Mina Group operates 18 concept restaurants across the United States, including Michael Mina, Bourbon Steak, Arcadia and RN74.
Since 2000, the Santa Barbara Vintners Foundation has donated more than $3.5 million to Direct Relief. Among other efforts, the Foundation’s funding helped launch Direct Relief USA, now the largest charitable pharmaceuticals program in the United States and the only one operating in all 50 States.
The 2016 Santa Barbara Wine Auction will include both live and silent auctions offering dozens of unique auction lots including once-in-a-lifetime wine, dining and travel experiences.
