Terroir Capital and Mesa Lane Partners announce the long anticipated commencement of the development of the Inn at Mattei’s Tavern in Los Olivos, CA in Santa Barbara County’s bourgeoning wine region

SANTA BARBARA, CA December 17, 2015 – Terroir Capital and Mesa Lane Partners announce the long anticipated commencement of the development of the Inn at Mattei’s Tavern in Los Olivos, CA in Santa Barbara County’s bourgeoning wine region. Terroir Capital, an investment firm specializing in leading hospitality and winery properties, has partnered with Mesa Lane Partners, a prominent Santa Barbara, CA-based real estate investment, development, and hospitality firm, to advance the development of a full-service boutique hotel and wine country resort at the site of the historic Mattei’s Tavern in Los Olivos, CA.

The resort will introduce 64 luxury bungalow-style suites, spread over nearly 7 acres, to the site of the existing Mattei’s Tavern Restaurant on Railway Avenue in Los Olivos, CA, and will include the renovation of existing historic buildings. The project will feature a world-class restaurant, full-service spa, an outdoor pool with a bar, a community-driven retail boutique selling local craft foods and artisan wares, a gym facility, on-site parking and valet, and 3,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor special event and meeting space.

As the only new luxury resort to be built in Los Olivos, this exciting project will fill the region’s need for full-service boutique accommodations, especially with respect to the 1 million tourists that visit the Santa Ynez Valley each year, as reported by Destination Analysts in 2015.

“I am extremely excited that we are moving forward with the development of the Inn at Mattei’s Tavern,” notes Terroir Capital CEO, Charles Banks. “Mesa Lane Partners is the perfect partner for us, as they fully understand the dynamics of Santa Barbara County. Together, we look forward to creating a remarkable place for locals and visitors to come together and enjoy all that’s special about our community.”

The project is fully entitled and permitted, which will allow construction to begin within as little as one year, lasting approximately 18 months in total. As planned, the acclaimed Mattei’s Tavern Restaurant will close temporarily during construction and will re-open concurrently with the new resort in Spring 2018. “We’re grateful to Robbie Wilson and Emily Perry Wilson for elevating the craft of cooking at Mattei’s Tavern Restaurant and look forward to continuing to work with them in the future,” says Banks.

Originally built in 1886, Mattei’s Tavern is a prominent and historic remnant of the Old West in Santa Barbara County. For almost 130 years, the property has continued to serve distinguished guests ranging from John D. Rockefeller to Clark Gable, who have been drawn to Mattei’s Tavern for its blend of natural beauty, romantic heritage and classic luxury. Over the years, the property has served as a stagecoach stop, restaurant, bar, hotel, as well as the terminus of the Pacific Coast Railway. In 2010, Mattei’s Tavern was designated Historic Landmark status by the County of Santa Barbara Historic Landmarks Advisory Commission.

“The Inn at Mattei’s Tavern will allow visitors and the local community to experience the rich history and warm hospitality of Los Olivos and the Santa Ynez Valley,” explains Neil Dipaola, CEO of Mesa Lane Partners. “The project will feature a high-touch guest experience and beautifully understated yet elegant design, blending the area’s rich heritage with modern luxuries.” The hotel’s distinctive design will retain the modest character of the site’s existing craftsman structures.

Given its premier location, romantic heritage and world-class amenities, the Inn at Mattei’s Tavern is positioned to become one of Southern California’s most sought after destination resorts.
