ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER MUSICAL
TELL ME ON A SUNDAY
BRINGS A SONG TO SANTA BARBARA SUMMER
July 6, 2015 – Santa Barbara, CA — Ensemble Theatre Company announces the addition of a second musical to its 2014/15 production calendar. July will bring summer and song as ETC presents Tell Me on a Sunday, the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Don Black musical about love and love-lost. Tell Me on a Sunday runs at the New Vic Theater from July 23 – August 2, with a press opening on Saturday, July 25.
From the composer who brought the world Evita and Phantom of the Opera comes the story of a young English woman trying to make it in New York City and Hollywood. Along the way, she experiences the splendor and the heartbreak of falling in love. Each dalliance comes with a lesson about life and an overwhelming sense of self-discovery. Through a series of ill-fated relationships and letters to her mother, the girl finds that “dreams never run on time,” and it’s better to enjoy life, instead of watching it pass by.
This musical, running just over one hour, is fun for the whole family. ETC’s production will be directed by Jamie Torcellini, who is often seen on stage, including his work on Broadway in Billy Elliot, Man of La Mancha, and Beauty and the Beast. He is no stranger to Andrew Lloyd Webber, having appeared in the original Broadway cast of Cats, in the early 1980s. The Music Director will be Graham Sobelman, who has extensive credits at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and throughout California, including a previous production of Tell Me on a Sunday.
Torcellini and Sobelman will be working alongside the multi-talented Misty Cotton, who was last seen at ETC as Petra in ETC’s wildly successful A Little Night Music. Cotton, who will play the young woman at the center of the show, has a track record for playing strong, female characters, including Eponine in Les Miserables, the Narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (also an Andrew Lloyd Webber piece), Ellen in Miss Saigon, and Sandy in Grease. She is the recipient of numerous accolades, including Ovation and Garland Awards, and the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Featured Actress. She can also be heard on the original cast recording of Winter Wonderettes.
The scenic, lighting, and video projection for Tell Me on a Sunday will all be deigned by François-Pierre Couture, who was the creative force behind ETC’s scenic design for Woyzeck.
Tickets for Tell Me on a Sunday are $40.00. Performances will run Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm, with a Saturday 4:00 pm matinee performance on July 25 and August 1, and a Sunday evening performance on July 26.
