Gainey Vineyard Celebrates 30th Anniversary By Opening Family Ranch Homestead to Barn Tastings

Santa Barbara, CA - Originally built in the 1890’s, the Gainey Ranch Family Homestead Barn is opening for the first time in 30 years for consumer tastings. Every Saturday and Sunday, on the hour, between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM, guests can hop into the winery Jeep or van for a pleasant jaunt through the countryside, arriving moments later at a remote, old-fashioned country barn. Tastings and round-trip ride to and from the winery are 15.00 per guest.

The Family Homestead Barn Tastings come at a bittersweet time; last year, Dan Gainey Sr. passed away, leaving a sound legacy of farming and winegrowing in his wake.

“Over the years, my father contributed much to the region’s burgeoning wine business while shunning the limelight. I joined the winery in 1986, and one of the joys of my life was working alongside my father over the next 28 years. Among the highlights of our partnership was the acquisition and planting of our Evan’s Ranch and Rancho Esperanza in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA, which, in addition to our Home Ranch, gave us vineyards in both the warmer and cooler ends of Santa Ynez Valley, enabling us to match our various grape varieties to their ideal environments,” says Dan Gainey Jr.

A portfolio of Gainey wines will be poured to guests at this picturesque site, the same site used in the 1992 Gary Sinise-directed “Of Mice and Men” starring Sinise and John Malkovich. Guests might also recognize the site from its inclusion in music videos from days gone by, by Aerosmith and George Strait, or commercials for a wide range of brands including Lucky Brands, Indian Motorcycles, Toyota and Ford Mustang, just to name a few. Infamously, perhaps, it’s is even the site of a Playmate-of-the-Month photo shoot for Playboy.

This idyllic country setting provides urban travelers with an ample dose of fresh air, an opportunity to be among nature and a breadth of fun, delicious wines.
