Santa Barbara High’s Dons Baseball Program will be recommending to the board of education a new leader in school year 2015-2016. It will be recommended that Donny Warrecker serve as the program’s fulltime head coach. In recent years, he has been sharing the position of head coach with his father, Fred Warrecker*.
Principal John Becchio said, “Coach Fred Warrecker has been the face of Dons baseball for generations of student athletes. He is a legend in the history of Santa Barbara High and our community. We are pleased that the next generation of Warrecker’s will continue their father’s good work. Donny will serve as head coach and his brother Wes will continue as a walk-on assistant coach.”
Santa Barbara High’s Athletic Director Joe Chenoweth said, “I am so pleased Fred has seen the dedication and hard work his son Donny has given to the Santa Barbara High baseball program over the past 10 years. If the school board approves Donny as the new head coach he will continue the legacy his father’s has created within the program. Our student athletes and our school have been fortunate to have Fred oversee the baseball program for more than four decades. Fred Warrecker will forever be a Don.”
Athletic Director Chenoweth and Coach Warrecker will be available to the media at 11:00 a.m. today (Monday, July 13, 2015) in front of the school, by the flag pole.
