The Center for Urban Agriculture Announces New Director of Farm Operations
The Center for Urban Agriculture at Fairview Gardens has announced the selection of Kjessie (pronounced Ch-essie) Essue as its new Director of Farm Operations. Kjessie will be working on Farm Operations such as Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), Wholesale Sales, Farmer’s Markets, the Farmstand at Fairview Gardens, reinvigorating our Farm apprenticeship program and continuing to improve and innovate sustainable farming practices.  
“We are very pleased to announce Kjessie Essue has joined our team” reported Tim Heuer, Executive Director for The Center for Urban Agriculture at Fairview Gardens “Kjessie is a dynamic leader and respected educator-she has found a way throughout her career to connect children and communities with the farms and natural systems that sustain them.”
Kjessie’s resume includes over 13 years of experience in agricultural systems including soil fertility, irrigation, water conservation and environmental impacts, CSA programs, and livestock orchard/pasture rotation systems. She held her last position as the Science and Garden educator at Crane Country Day School in Montecito. Kjessie also held positions at School Gardens in Carpinteria, Hilltop Canyon in Carpinteria, Aurora Farms in Santa Barbara and Shepherd Farms in Carpinteria. She traveled to Lesotho, South Africa with the Peace Corps to educate students at the Bethel Business and Community Development Centre in the field of sustainable agriculture. Kjessie holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Westmont College and a Masters in Crop and Soil Science from Colorado State University.
The Center for Urban Agriculture at Fairview Gardens is a twelve and a half acre 100+ year-old farm that is open to the public. Guests are encouraged to take a self-guided tour or arrange with our staff for your school or organization to have an hour guided educational tour. Our mission is to build critical connections between community, agriculture and education. We run summer and after-school camps and provide a venue for a variety of classes and workshops. We provide the community with organically grown fruits and vegetables at local farmers’ markets, our CSA (community supported agriculture) The Center for Urban Agriculture at Fairview Gardens is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
