March 18th is Bus Driver Appreciation Day!

Wednesday, March 18th, is International Bus Driver Appreciation Day! Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District (MTD) invites the community to join in thanking the hard-working bus drivers of Santa Barbara.
Consider this: For hours on end, bus drivers manage to keep a schedule, check fares, give directions, announce bus stops, remember stop requests, and more; all while safely maneuvering a bus through unpredictable traffic, adverse weather conditions, and some really tight spaces! The fact is, bus drivers don’t have an easy job - they just make it look that way.
Bus Driver Appreciation Day was conceived in 2009 by some thoughtful riders in Seattle, who chose March 18th because it is believed to be the anniversary of the first public transit trip, taken in Paris, France in 1662. We think it’s a great way to honor the many hard-working bus drivers who make it possible for MTD to realize its mission of providing safe, clean, reliable, courteous, accessible, environmentally-responsible, and cost-effective transit service throughout the South Coast.
