Santa Barbara, Calif. – March 4, 2015 - TV Santa Barbara (TVSB) invites the community to explore the Abstract Art Collective (AAC) in a group exhibition, entitled Multivision, from March 5 through May 29, 2015. Mingle with the artists and TVSB media makers at a free reception on Friday, April 3rd, from 5-7 pm. Light refreshments will be served. The TVSB Media Arts Center, located at 329 S. Salinas Street in Santa Barbara, is open to the public from 1-10 PM, Monday - Friday.
Multivision is juried by Nancy Gifford, contemporary artist and Vice President of The Arts Fund. AAC artists work in a wide variety of media including paintings, printmaking, collage, sculpture, fiber arts, digital art, photography, and assemblage.
“The AAC has developed a definition of abstract art in order to have guidelines for what they accept into their exhibitions,” said Jan Ziegler, AAC Chair. “They have chosen a broad definition which includes non-objective, conceptual and abstract expressionism, where some forms may be recognizable. If images within a piece are recognizable, they must be sufficiently taken out of real world context.”
“Some of the artwork may be narrative,” Ziegler explained, “with a story or statement embedded in a collage of images. Some of the artwork may delve into the non-objective realms of color field, forms and textures. No matter what the genre, most AAC artists agree that the ‘meaning’ of their finished work is open to interpretation by the viewer, engaging them in an interactive experience.”
All works of art are for sale, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting TVSB, the nonprofit host.
