PRESS RELEASE / ANNOUNCEMENTS Wednesday, March 25, 2015

Boyz of Santa Barbara” name Ice in Paradise Locker Room for $200,000” alt=”“>In an effort to demonstrate their financial support of the soon to be Ice in Paradise ice skating arena, an adult hockey group known as the “Boyz of Santa Barbara” is doing their part to bring Ice Skating and the sport of Ice Hockey to the Greater Santa Barbara area. For several years, this group of adult ice hockey players has been commuting to the Channel Islands Ice Center in Oxnard, on a weekly basis, to play the game that they love - Ice Hockey. By September 2015, this group will no longer have that weekly commute to Oxnard. Instead, the new Ice in Paradise arena will become their permanent home for many years to come. The Greater Santa Barbara Ice Skating Association (GSBISA), a non-profit, 501(c) (3) Corporation, has been fundraising for several years in an effort to bring Ice Skating to our community. Located in Goleta, the new Ice in Paradise arena will provide the ice skating opportunity for everyone. This will include general skating sessions, Learn-to-Skate programs, figure skating, adaptive sports for the mobility impaired, youth hockey for girls and boys, adult hockey, and many more skating programs. With a lead gift from Michael Belton and many others, the “Boyz of Santa Barbara” have come together with over $200,000 of financial support for the Ice in Paradise rinks and have named one of the locker rooms in their honor. “We are very grateful that this group of adult hockey players have made their connection to our rinks here in our community”, says Jack Norqual, Campaign Chair for Ice in Paradise, ” Adult hockey is the fastest growing segment of USA Hockey in America, and with this kind of leadership it is sure to grow in the Greater Santa Barbara area as well”. Over the years, this group has been led by its commissioner, Charles Batsford.
