SANTA BARBARA, CA. MARCH 24, 2015 – Last week, Granada Books put out a plea to the Santa Barbara community to help keep their downtown independent bookstore soluble for the rest of the year and has been heartened by the response from the community. The money raised from this plea will be used to cover overhead expenses (salaries, utilities, and rent) as Granada Books works to become financially stable. As of Monday, March 23, Granada Books has reached 30% of their goal.
We are getting there and would like folks to know that we appreciate ALL their help. The link to our fundraising page: http://www.gofundme.com/granadabooks
If Granada Books stays open, a couple has reached out to the store to have their wedding here in September, a perfect way for the bookstore to say THANK YOU for the help of the community!
Granada Books has been a Community Bookstore from the very beginning; starting with community members coming into the store before we opened to help shelve books, to nominating Granada Books for the “Best Small Business” and voting us as a runner up to Chaucer’s Books in the Independent (twice!), to earning a City Proclamation for World Book Night last April. We have proudly been YOUR Community Bookstore, bringing in author events, music, and the love of the written word to Downtown Santa Barbara.
We have numerous upcoming community events we hope to be able to keep, including Bookstore Day in May, Where’s Waldo in July, Poetry Zone every month, along with author signings, music, and story times.
Granada Books: A Community Bookstore has worked very hard to become a gathering place for ideas, inspiration, and most importantly, where you can come in and walk among the books.
From the bottom of our hearts and to the moon and back, we thank you for your support and love and for all possibilities. We love being your community bookstore and hope we can continue providing books for everyone to enjoy for years to come.
