Bikram Yoga Santa Barbara to become Yoga105° on May 1

Santa Barbara’s longest running hot yoga studio changes
its name amidst Choudhury allegations.
Santa Barbara, California — On May 1, 2015, Bikram
Yoga Santa Barbara, a long-time favorite in the community
known for it’s Bikram-method hot yoga, will be changing
their name to Yoga105°. The new name reflects a recent
face-lift to the studio, including the installation of a state of
the art floor for the hot room, and a new fresh air system.
The name change also reflects a desire by the owners and
staff to distance the studio from the turmoil surrounding
Bikram Choudhury, who brought this style of yoga to the
United States in the early 1970s.
“We love Bikram Yoga, and we are committed to staying
true to the postures, the discipline, and the purity of the
practice, which goes back at least hundreds, if not
thousands of years. It was passed down through a lineage
of teachers, including Bikram Choudhury, who did us a
great service by passing on the yoga learned from his
teacher, Bishnu Ghosh.” says Yoga105° Director, Mari
Larangeira.
“But after repeated allegations of sexual abuse, and
questions about Bikram’s lavish lifestyle, we have decided
to change our name. We made this decision because we
want to make sure our values are represented. Simplicity,
sustainability and humility are important values for us, and
we no longer feel that Mr. Choudhury is representative of
those values.”
To celebrate their new beginning, Yoga105° will be having
an Open House from 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on May 1 and
is inviting the public. Classes will be free all day and they
will be offering up drinks and healthy snacks after class
throughout the day.
In addition, the studio will be offering One Free Week of
Unlimited Classes to any new student or anyone who
hasn’t been to the studio in 3 months or longer.
“Over and over again, we see the healing benefits of this
simple and profound practice - whether it’s knee or back
pain, insomnia, depression, or anxiety. That’s why it has
lasted so long, that’s why it has been so successful,” says
Larangeira.
Yoga105° is located at 3891 State Street, Santa Barbara,
CA 93105 on the 2nd Floor of the Galleria Building. Ample
parking is available. For more information,
