The Santa Barbara Public Library System wants you! The Central Library, located at 40 E. Anapamu St. in Santa Barbara, is seeking people who like to make a difference in their community. Library volunteers give a few hours a week to help the Library provide its programs, collections and services to the public.
The current featured volunteer positions are:
Book Detective. This position is volunteers who like to search for books, DVDs and other materials, are organized and detail oriented, and who can come in the morning before the library opens and to search for patrons’ requests/holds on the shelves. Now that requests are free of charge, the Library needs Book Detectives more than ever.
Paperback Righter. Those who enjoy keeping things tidy, organized and easy to find can help in the paperback book collection, a popular area where patrons can browse books by genre and borrow them for as long as they want. Paperback Righters categorize, process and display the donated paperback books in the library’s “honor system” collection.
Prospective Library volunteers fill out an application at the Central Library and have an initial meeting with the Volunteer Coordinator. The Library provides training and asks for a 6-month commitment of two hours per week. For more information about these and other volunteer opportunities, call Central Library Volunteer Coordinator Pilar Montes at (805)564-5634, or email her at PMontes@SantaBarbaraCA.gov.
