National Nurses Week - Ethical Practice. Quality Care.

National Nurses Week honors nurses with the theme “Ethical Practice. Quality Care”, recognizing the importance of ethics in nursing and acknowledging the strong commitment, compassion and care nurses display in their practice and profession. Santa Barbara County Public Health Department’s Registered Nurses will be honored on May 5, 2015 at the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisor’s meeting.
This year National Nurses Week acknowledges how nurses’ play a critical role in improving patient health outcomes, increasing access to health care and reducing health care costs in the community, health care centers, at home, in maternal child health and in shelter settings. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 has continued to enhance nurse leadership roles in health care, implement strategies to improve the quality of care, and play a key role in innovative, patient-centered care delivery models.
The Public Health Department nurses protect, promote and optimize health, prevention of illness, injury and advocacy in the care of individuals, families, communities and populations. In 2014, the Public Health Department nurses effectively responded to priority communicable disease events that included a pertussis epidemic, measles outbreak and Ebola preparedness.
National Nurses Week begins on May 6, marked as RN Recognition Day, and ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession.
The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department has Registered Nurses that provide exemplary service to the entire community. At the May 5, 2015 Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisor’s meeting, Supervisor Salud Carbajal will present a proclamation recognizing nurses’ commitment toward improving the health care status of members in our community through leadership and expertise.
