Magic on the Urban Wine Trail Fundraiser a Success
PARC Foundation Raises $39,000 in Support of Youth Programs
SANTA BARBARA, CA – May 7, 2015
The Parks & Recreation Community Foundation’s 3rd Annual Magic on the Urban Wine Trail fundraiser, held on Sunday, April 19th at the historic Carrillo Recreation Center, raised over $39,000 in support of recreation and cultural programming for underserved and at-risk youth through the City of Santa Barbara Parks & Recreation Department.
Over 300 people attended the event, which featured 15 wineries from the esteemed Santa Barbara Urban Wine Trail pouring their fine artisanal wines, a large silent auction, musical entertainment, and the first ever PARC Gallery featuring work by more than a dozen regional artists.
Teens who had recently completed the City’s Culinary Arts Program worked with their mentor chefs to cook, prepare, and serve a wide variety of delicious hors d’oeuvres and desserts. This provided “a wonderful opportunity to visit with the Culinary Arts students and experience their enthusiasm as they learn about nutrition and [other] educational opportunities,” said Tom Caesar, Senior Vice President at HUB International and PARC board member. The teens donate their time and newly learned skills during the event to “pay it forward,” making the same opportunity available to other young people: proceeds from the event will fund the Youth Culinary Arts Program for 2016, in addition to helping send 90 children—who wouldn’t be able to go otherwise—to Parks & Recreation camps this summer.
“I just sent two kids to camp and bought a case of my favorite wine,” said attendee Dan Gira, summing up the combination of fun and community purpose that occurs at the Magic on the Urban Wine Trail events. “We’ve all taken advantage of the great summer programs offered by Parks and Rec. Good to give to back!” added Victoria Greene, another enthusiastic attendee.
The PARC Foundation would like to thank all who attended the event; the recent graduates and mentor chefs of the Youth Culinary Art Program; the PARC Board of Directors; the participating Urban Wine Trail wineries, especially Ryan Carr of Carr Winery & Vineyard; featured PARC Gallery artists Tajo McBurnie and Francis Dawson; musicians Patrick & Rick Maiani and Michael Gutin; all the individuals and organizations who donated items for the silent auction and art sale; and, of course, the event sponsors: Mission Linen Supply, who has served as presenting sponsor for all three years of the event; Armstrong Associates; Montecito Bank & Trust; CASA Magazine; Village Properties; Noozhawk; BMW Santa Barbara; Bryant & Sons, Ltd.; Howard Hudson, CPA; Intermezzo Bar + Café; Mike Richardson Realtors; Pacific Western Bank; Rincon Broadcasting; Western Pacific Produce; and MarBorg Industries.
