On Wednesday, June 17, 2015, Central Coast vacation favorite, Solvang, California, will host the “Midsommer Musik” version of their monthly “Third Wednesday” activities, to kick off the village’s outdoor summer concert series as well as vacation, staycation and picnic-in-the-park season. The day’s varied offerings will include deals at local merchants including boutiques of all sorts, restaurants and gourmet food purveyors; the weekly Santa Barbara Certified Farmers Market; the popular Solvang Third Wednesday Wine & Beer Walk; discounts at local hotels; and free, live music – from blues and bluegrass, to folk/Americana, to country, rockabilly and classic rock – from 12 Noon to 12 Midnight, all over town.
Solvang’s “Midsommer Musik” celebration will mark the official start of the town’s summer-long outdoor concert series, with free shows scheduled for each Wednesday, June 17 through August 19, 2015, at the Gazebo in Solvang Park (Mission Drive and First Street). The Solvang Park summer concerts will run from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM each Wednesday, and will feature musical acts of varied genres as well as different food vendors throughout the summer season, to complete concert-goers’ picnic plans.
During the special June 17 “Midsommer Musik” Solvang Third Wednesday, each musician or band stationed throughout the town will be playing at overlapping intervals, for a stream of day-long entertainment. June 17 is the eve of “International Picnic Day”, and the Gazebo in picnic haven, Solvang Park, will see the first, free music performance from 12 Noon to 2:00 PM, as local Classic Rock band the Low Down Dudes, takes the stage. Guests are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs, and fully-outfitted spreads – including their favorite beverages – for the picnic-friendly afternoon concert.
Additional, confirmed artists scheduled to perform on June 17, are Cash Cooper featuring David Spindler (Country/Rock), playing from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM in Centennial Plaza (near intersection of Alisal Road and Copenhagen Drive); Blues Bob & The Loopy Blues Band (Blues), 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM in front of The Home Connection (425 Alisal Road); the Country Heart Duo (Country) in front of The Book Loft (1680 Mission Drive), from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM; Barry Kaufman (European Folk/American Standards) from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM (location TBA); Los Spindleros (Folk/Americana), 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM in front of the Serendipity Shoppe (448 Atterdag Road); and the Stuart Mason Duo (Bluegrass) at Wandering Dog Wine Bar (1539-C Mission Drive), from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
Solvang Park will once again serve as a food-focused, picnic stop starting at 5:00 PM, where guests will be able to purchase Cecco Ristorante’s famous pizzas and gourmet grub from Good2go! Wine Country Food Cart, while enjoying the day’s main concert event: The Mark Roberts Band, California-inspired and roots rock, will play the Park from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
The June 17 edition of Solvang Third Wednesday culminates with a Midsummer’s Eve Traditional Danish Fire Ring ceremony – along the lines of a bonfire – at 9:00 PM, in front of the Solvang Brewing Company (1547 Mission Drive), where the fun runs through 12 Midnight as Lompoc-based Rockabilly band, Dead Zed’s Chopper, performs for the duration of the night.
An optimal way for “Midsommer Musik” revelers to catch the multiple performers throughout the day, is to embark on the afore-mentioned Solvang Third Wednesday Wine & Beer Walk (3:00 PM to 7:00 PM), a monthly, ticketed activity ($20.00 per person) which entails wine or beer tastings at five venues of participants’ choice, a logo glass, and a map to guide tasters to crowd-pleasing Solvang watering holes like Wandering Dog Wine Bar; Sort This Out Cellars; The Good Life, Craft Beer & Wine Cellar; Carivintâs Winery’s Tasting Room; Randy’s Taproom; the Olive House; Casa Cassara Winery & Vineyard’s Tasting Room; Dascomb Cellars; Lions Peak Vineyard’s Tasting Room; Solvang Brewing Company; Viking Garden Cellars; the Lucas & Lewellen Vineyards and Toccata Tasting Rooms; Lucky Dogg Winery; and more.
Cash-only Wine & Beer Walk tickets (just $20.00 per person) may be purchased on Solvang Third Wednesdays at Wandering Dog Wine Bar (1539-C Mission Drive), the Olive House (1661 Mission Drive), and Sort This Out Cellars (1636 Copenhagen Drive).
Third Wednesday guests looking for a DIY activity, may partake in a jewelry-making class at Kandra’s Beads (5:00 PM to 7:00 PM; 1539-A Mission Drive; 805.686.8804), owned by local artist and long-time Santa Ynez Valley resident, Kandra Norsigian. Serving as a taste of nature-inspired culture, the Wildling Museum (1511-B Mission Drive) will offer FREE admission from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, allowing visitors to peruse the Museum’s multiple exhibits.
Visitors left weary from their day of wine, food, music and fun, may also take advantage of Third Wednesday deals at some of Solvang’s best hotels, like 20% off of their night’s stay (with a qualifying stay).
