90+ Birthday Party to Be Held October 22

City of Santa Barbara’s annual birthday party for elders aged 90-plus returns for twenty-sixth year
Free event to be held October 22 at the Carrillo Recreation Center
SANTA BARBARA, CA (October 1, 2015)—On Thursday, October 22 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the historic Carrillo Recreation Center, the City of Santa Barbara, the PARC Foundation, and HUB International will present the 90+ Birthday Party. Over 200 elders aged 90 years or more and their caregivers will take part in a complimentary luncheon, which also includes birthday cake and live musical entertainment from Jazz Plus. “Mr. Santa Barbara” Larry Crandell will return to help emcee the festivities and lead a sing-along of favorite songs.
The 90+ Birthday Party has a rich history in the Santa Barbara community, with the City’s Parks and Recreation Department having hosted 25 such parties since 1985. The very first luncheon took place in the meeting room of the Carrillo Recreation Center with 25 guests. The event is now aided by the Parks and Recreation Community (PARC) Foundation as well as by numerous sponsors from the Santa Barbara business community; last year’s 90+ Birthday Party welcomed close to 300 guests including caregivers.
Members of the PARC Foundation Board of Directors, event sponsors, and community members volunteer as greeters, servers, and general help, creating a strong sense of appreciation for the attendees. “The 90+ Birthday Party is my favorite PARC-sponsored event,” said PARC board Vice President Lesley Wiscomb, who has volunteered at the event for the last several years. “For me it’s a chance to give back in a small way to so many who have given so much.”
Anyone aged 90 or older is welcome to attend with one caregiver, but are asked to RSVP, as space is limited. Interested parties can call (805) 897-2519 to make a reservation.
This year’s 90+ Birthday Party is generously sponsored by HUB International, the City of Santa Barbara, the PARC Foundation Board of Directors, CASA Magazine, Easy Lift Transportation, Howard Hudson CPA, Montecito Bank & Trust, the Santa Barbara City Firefighters Association, and Sharon Kennedy Estate Management.

The Parks and Recreation Community (PARC) Foundation promotes, preserves, and enhances parks, recreation programs, and open space in Santa Barbara for the enjoyment, appreciation, and improved quality of life of present and future generations. To find out more, please visit parcsb.org.
